From young vines in Musigny plus non-cru parcels, the de Vogue 2005 Chambolle-Musigny does indeed exhibit the character of black raspberry sorbet, ripe yet somehow "cool" with lovely clarity and wafting florality, a hint of wood smoke, and a bright, invigorating cling of ripe black raspberry fruit. This nicely restrained yet well-concentrated wine will drink beautifully in the short run but deserves at least 3-5 years of rest to make good on its potential.

(from vines in the southwest portion of the village and includes some declassified 1ers from Les Baudes and Fuées) An extract of dark berry fruit nuanced with intense floral aromas combines with rich, full and naturally sweet flavors that possess excellent concentration, volume and plenty of sap that renders the firm tannins to the background. This is one of those exuberantly delicious wines that you feel like drinking yet there is real depth and weight. An excellent villages that will age.

($119) Good medium red. High-pitched, slightly exotic aromas of raspberry and wild mint. Sweet, silky and rich but at the same time light and lively, with lovely purity and perfume to its fruit and mint flavors. Finishes broad and seductive, with lovely lingering perfume. Firmly built, but I find this harmonious from the get-go.

Intense aromas of blackberry, raspberry, and milky stone with a hint of chocolate. Flavors continue in the mouth and resonate on the palate for quite a long time. Drinking just wonderfully well today although one knows that a few years in the cellar will only improve this wine. Best villages level wine I've ever tasted. Quintessential Chambolle.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
