Professional Reviews For This Wine

Burghound | Rating: 93

(from a 1.2 ha parcel) Here the nose is more deeply pitched yet elegant with an aromatic spectrum that runs more toward black and blue fruit aromas tinged with obvious earth and spice notes plus a touch of animale that can also be found on the rich, full and intense full-bodied flavors that possess good grip and a more obviously structured finish that is strikingly long. This is less fine than the Clos St. Denis but there is more overall depth of material. A choice.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
