Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 95-96

From 50-year-old vines, a 2005 Chapelle-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes smells of intensely ripe black-raspberry and tiny Maine blueberries, comes onto the palate with a sappy, slightly resinous, pungently spicy and berryish, almost Zinfandel-like fruit personality allied to very Burgundian carnality, and finishes with dark concentration yet panache. Silky, refined tannins and an overall sleekness suggest a wine to revisit in 8-10 years as one would hate to miss out on some remaining elements of this wine's strikingly intense primary fruit.

($255) Deep red-ruby. Wild, sexy aromas of musky dark raspberry, smoked meat and flowers. Dense, rich, thick and superconcentrated, with a powerful core of candied cherry fruit. This really saturates the palate with flavor. No doubt constituted for a long life in bottle, but today the tannins are hidden by the wine's sheer mass of fruit.

Lush, open and very approachable now, this red oozes blackberry and black cherry aromas and flavors, with firm, ripe tannins and a supple texture. Has fine length. Very seductive. 200 cases made.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
