Good deep red. Coolish, discreet aromas of cherry, minerals and menthol. Broad, lush and pure; a step up in sweetness and flesh from this estate's other 2005s but with strong mineral and crushed stone elements giving real punch to the red fruit and floral flavors. This has real grand cru weight and palate presence. Finishes with harmonious tannins and superb aromatic persistence. A beauty-and built for long life in bottle.

About This Producer

Since 1797 the prestigious terroirs of Vosne-Romanee and Vougeot have provided Domaine Lamarche with their precious fruit. From these terroirs , Lamarche produces fourteen different wines, including the rare La Grande Rue, which is a Vosne-Romanee Grand Cru and a monopole as well. The Lamarche Estate, which remains a family firm to this day, boasts a total vineyard area of nearly 28 acres and the family has adopted integrated viticulture practices for all of their holdings. The goal is to express both their terroir and their history in each wine. Regardless of where the wines originate, the common thread that binds them all is elegance with exceptional balance and a delicate nose.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
