Site Blog: purely domestic wine report 14.5% alcohol, Stagecoach Vineyard, and Viader Estate Aromas: smooth and densely-packed berries, plum and pepper touched with a hint of smoke Palate: shows some chewy dark fruits initially, giving way to sun-warmed plum and boysenberry. Nice structure Impression: I'm hard pressed to find another Napa Cab Franc that delivers the value found here

Garnet/purple in color. Low rim variation. Drinking very well now. Typical of warmer climate Cab Franc, it has the peppery aspect desired by blenders but the raspberry/cherry and floral aspects (fruit driven) are more present in this one. Took me two days to get through, very pleasant.

A bit tannic and tight, without the power I was expecting. Maybe needs more time. Some cherry and fresh wood flavors

About This Producer

VIADER is a leading Napa Valley winery estate established in 1986 by Delia Viader, and recognized for consistently producing high quality red wines. The estate is located 1200 feet above the Napa Valley floor just north-east of St. Helena on the steep, rocky slopes of Howell Mountain.

Since its inaugural vintage in 1989, the VIADER Proprietary blend has featured Cabernet Sauvignon with a significant component of Cabernet Franc. The second lable "V" is exclusively Petit Verdot. The estate VIADER Syrah is a blend of Barossa and Hermitage clones. DARE by Viader focuses on single varieties from select vineyards in the Napa Valley blended with their estate fruit. DARE Cabernet Sauvignon features fruit sourced from Lewelling Vineyards in St. Helena. DARE Cabernet Franc uses fruit from Stagecoach Vineyards in Oakville. DARE Tempranillo is made from a Ribera del Duero clonal selection sourced from the northeast side of the Napa Valley. VIADER also produces a very limited amount of Cabernet-based dry DARE Rose.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Franc

One of the five major blending grapes in Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc is also one of the genetic parents of Cabernet Sauvignon (along with Sauvignon Blanc). Lighter, fruitier, and more herbaceous than Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc grows abundantly in the Loire region of France and is commonly blended with weightier Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Franc are peppers, tobacco, and violets.
