Displaying spectacular aromatics of mulberry, blueberry and raspberry fruit, a dense ruby/purple color, and sweet floral notes, in the mouth the 2005 La Conseillante is not as broad and powerful as Petrus, Trotanoy, Hosanna or Lafleur, but it is gorgeously silky, elegant and stylish. This medium-bodied, savory wine is a graceful, provocative and compelling Pomerol to drink now and over the next 25 years.

This is decadent and wild on the nose, with fresh cèpe, raw steak and wild berry. Full-bodied, with loads of velvety tannins, yet refined and caressing in every way. A beautiful, balanced red. The best young wine ever from this producer. 4,165 cases made.

Tasted after the Clos L'Eglise, the 2005 La Conseillante simply has more of everything. More richness, body and texture, but at the same time, there is a striking element of underlying minerality that confers freshness. The Conseillante is one of the riper wines of the night, yet all the elements are very much in the right place. A host of dark, jammy flavors meld into the effortless, flamboyant finish, where a kick of sweetness from the French oak adds the closing nuances. What a gorgeous wine this is.

($285-$475) Bright, medium red-ruby. Superripe, complex aromas of kirsch, musky espresso, fruity dark chocolate, spices and game. Wonderfully lush, sweet, dense and ripe; in fact, atypically large-scaled (this is 13.7% alcohol) and full for La Conseillante but perfectly framed by harmonious acidity. The light meaty quality is buried in dark fruits on the palate. The spreading, horizontal finish is very sweet, subtle and long, with fine-grained tannins and lovely lingering aromatic perfume. This beauty will be great fun to follow over the next couple of decades.

Mid crimson. Lots of glycerol. Glowing dark crimson. Headily savoury tobacco-leaf notes - not the sweet side of Pomerol initially, although that crept on to the mid palate before the substantial charge of tannins made their presence felt. This is a very long-term wine but is extremely impressive.

Site Blog: Unidentified Appellation La Conseillante was flat out one of the most spectacular 2005?s of the tasting. Such a wondrous bouquet of sweet fruit, lilac meadow, whiskey barrel and high class pipe tobacco greeted my nose w/ astonishment as I couldn'thave imagined any Bordeaux this young could show this well. The palate is flawlessly textured and while it certainly has ample richness, it is so ethereal and knee-bucklingly plush that it leaves you w/ an impression of majesty instead of severity. La Conseillante made a glorious 2005 that has to be tasted to be believed

Stunning wine. sweet kirsh and blackberries, licorice, woodsy spices, mild nutty oak. More tanninic than expected to really draw out the flavor and structure. Bravo!

Floral on the nose with high toned fruit. Smooth on the palate with surprisingly light fruit, but tons of character and depth.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
