Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91

($75) Good red-ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, mocha and smoke, lifted by a floral topnote. Ripe, fresh and intense, with a sappy quality to the dark cherry and smoke flavors. Nicely supple, full cabernet, finishing with broad, sweet tannins and very good length.

The nose is ripe and loamy with solid, concentrated spicy black fruit on the palate. Lots of backbone to the licorice and plum centered palate.

About This Producer

Founded by Steve and Linda Goldfarb, Anomaly premiered in the 2002 vintage and remains all estate grown (nearly doubling production through adding adjacent parcels over the years to their St. Helena property). Winemaker Mark Porembski took over for founding winemaker Amy Aiken beginning with the 2003 vintage. The winery produces only a Cabernet Sauvignon from heavily thinned vineyards typically yielding less than 2 tons per acre.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
