About This Producer

The dedication of the Arlaud family - father Herve, son Cyprien and daughter Bertille - has substantially improved this domaine each year. Their labor-intensive practices of hand pruning, stringent green harvesting and the use of a horse and plow instead of a tractor have produced the finest wines of the domaine's history.

The wines are textbook expressions of each terroir and are remarkably complex and richly balanced. Look for the domaine to continue to build its strong reputation in vintages ahead.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
