Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Spectator | Rating: 93

Bold, rich, dense and concentrated, with layers of earthy blackberry, wild berry, currant and pretty toasty vanilla oak shadings that provide an added dimension of flavor. Intense and vibrant through the finish, with lively acidity and firm, muscular tannins. 150 cases made.

Wow. This is a big, big wine. Really smooth stuff. Dark, deep fruit. A bit of spice although not as much as I was expecting. A bit of heat but pretty well integrated. Should get better but already pretty inviting stuff. Def not everyones taste but for a massive wine this is pretty great.

shared with friends, a deep dark ruby red wine with big berry flavors and a thick consistency with a long delicious finish.

About This Producer

In 1992, Debbie and Randy Lewis established a small family winery with their son Dennis. Total production is approximately 9,000 cases annually of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah. They source the finest fruit available from Oakville, Rutherford and Pritchard Hill for red varietals, and the Carneros and Russian River Valley appellations for Chardonnay.

Wine Varietal: Syrah

While the rest of the world is calling it "Syrah," Australia and South Africa stick to "Shiraz," their name for the same grape. Previously it was thought that the name Shiraz originated from a city in Persia where the Syrah grape was believed to have originated. Recently U.S. and French researchers demystified the name debate when they discovered that the Syrah grape was indigenous to France. Intense, robust and sometimes referred to as "manly," Syrah grows principally in the Northern Rhone. The spicy, peppery grape also grows abundantly in Australia, South Africa, and California, where it takes on a softer, thicker character than its French version. Typical descriptors for Syrah include blackberry, dark chocolate, mint, eucalyptus, smoked meat, black pepper, liquorice, and cloves.
