($320; includes all the Vosne-Romanee holdings, including the grand crus) Good medium red. More fruity on the nose than the NSG, with complicating elements of smoke and musky game. This offers a lovely silky texture and compelling sweetness and stuffing for the vintage, with smoke and underbrush adding complexity to the wine's fruit. This has excellent material and finishes with suave tannins.

extremly strong and sexy aroma with a topnote of chinese traditional herb medicine and musky, around with a floral background. But the acid is a little bit high and the texture gone too fast in about 1 hour. a smooth tannin finish , and the empty glass can give out a caramel air.

Consistent notes. Very light red color; amazingly exotic nose of asian spices and musky, earthy notes typical of Leroy's top domaine wines; sadly a bit disappointing on the palate with limited, somewhat unidimensional fruit typical of the vintage. Soft integrated tannins, silky texture. Leroy's expert hands are evident but the fruit just isn't there. An enjoyable wine nonetheless.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
