Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90

($320; a blend of the Gevreys) Medium red with a palish rim. Wild, meaty nose is already quite expressive. Sweet and silky but less fat than the Chambolle; this has firm minerality and a smoked meat element but there's also a faint vegetility lurking. Ultimately less primary than the Chambolle and a bit rustic in character. But the smoky finish shows good thrust.

Popped and poured. Light, red color with some orange on the rim. As is my experience with several other 2004 Leroy's, this wine is quite cloudy. What a perfumed nose, more floral than spice! Again, almost don't need to drink to enjoy, but when I did, I was not disappointed! Lots of sour cherry and a very long finish. As Leroy's 2004s were de-classified and contain several village, Premier and Grand Cru wines, I don't think that this wine will have much staying power; I'd drink-up all her 2004s within the next few years.

"Domaine Leroy is a welcome reminder of the difference between the very good and the great." - Michel Bettane, Vins de France

Created in 1988 - beginning with the purchase of the 12 hectares Domaine Charles Noellat in Vosne-Romanee - Domaine Leroy has become one of the most impressive and vaunted properties in Burgundy. Cultivation follows strict biodynamic parameters and the combination of old vine preservation and ultra-low yields produce fruit of unrivaled excellence. Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
