About This Producer

One of the small grower elite, Michel Egly's "cult" status owes to his ability to be somewhat of an alchemist when combining the elements that transform themselves into his phenomenal Champagnes. The quality and originality of these Champagnes stem from the land (grand cru and premier cru vineyards), the age of the vines (on average 40+ years), the precise vinification methods employed, and that intangible magical touch - knowing just what to blend and when.

Wine Varietal: Champagne Blend

Three major varieties are used in a Champagne Blend: Chardonnay, which provides a smooth, creamy texture and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, which provide depth and backbone. Most Champagne is non-vintage (NV), produced with grapes from several different vintages. Vintage Champagnes are made in exceptional years and must contain 80% grapes from that year. Champagne, France is the only region permitted to put "Champagne" on the label.

Blanc de Blancs: Meaning "white of white," blanc de blancs Champagne is 100% Chardonnay.

Blanc de Noirs: Meaning "white of red," is 100% Pinot Noir or a Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier blend.

Rose Champagne: A small amount of still red wine is added during the blending process, creating a rose hue.
