(a 53/47 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Bright red-ruby. Slightly medicinal aromas of cassis, chocolate, licorice, violet and mint. Suave in the mouth, with ripe, moderately intense flavors of blueberry, blackberry and violet. Seems a bit soft and lacking in ultimate grip, but nicely ripe and floral. Finishes with slightly disjointed but ultimately sweet tannins.

Subtle yet rich aromas of currant, spice and smoke follow through to a full-bodied palate, with chewy tannins and a long, flavorful aftertaste. Very thick, almost syrupy. Impressive. Best after 2010. 23,000 cases made. 'JS

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
