Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Spectator | Rating: 90

Enormously complex and concentrated, with aromas of ripe currant, blackberry, sandalwood and herb that are joined by hints of sage and currant. Sleek and firmly tannic, the fruit pushes through on a long, rich, detailed finish.

About This Producer

Perched on the slopes of Pritchard Hill overlooking Napa Valley, architect Richard Martin's thirty-acre Versant Vineyard was established in 1995 and primarily supplied grapes for neighbors' wines in the early going. Martin now has former Peter Michael winemaker Robbie Meyer in-house creating the wines. Production is under 500 cases.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
