Professional Reviews For This Wine

Burghound | Rating: 89-91

Riper and fuller on the nose with anise, mocha, tobacco and intense plum if not prune with soft, forward, lush and opulent mouth coating flavors underpinned by buried structure and excellent finishing intensity. This is a generous but structured effort that will need a decade in bottle to be at its best.

($130) Good medium red. Liqueur-like red berries and a note of black walnut on the nose; shows the grenache side of the vintage. Then fresher in the mouth, creamy and concentrated, with a peppery aspect. But ultimately a wine of moderate sweetness. Finishes with a slightly dry suggestion of nut skin.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
