Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 95

Profound aromas of chocolate, blackberries, black cherries, and spices are found in the nose of the 2003 Chambertin-Clos de Beze (from a 45-55-year old parcel). A huge, exceptionally deep wine, its potent core of black cherry fruit is highly expressive and massively concentrated. Well-balanced, it reveals immense complexity, staying power, and an exceptionally long finish studded with copious quantities of ripe tannin.

($200) Bright, deep red. Superripe yet vibrant and perfumed aromas of black raspberry, rose petal and minerals. Very ripe and highly concentrated; creamy yet firm, thanks to powerful underlying structure. A wine of great energy, density and soil character, and an infant today. Finishes with outstanding palate-staining persistence and a slightly saline quality. This should evolve spectacularly for at least 15 to 20 years. A great wine in the making.

A powerful, slightly burly style, with plenty of black cherry and vanilla aromas and flavors. It needs time to integrate all its elements, yet the structure is vibrant and the tannins are ripe and well-integrated. 130 cases imported.

Burghound | Rating: 91-94

The incredibly rich, powerful and complex flavors are introduced by classy, pure, spicy and ripe aromas of dark pinot fruit notes and obvious earth nuances all framed by an interesting hint of sandalwood. There are buckets of pinot sap that coat and stain the palate and all but completely hide the very firm tannins that presently dominate the finish yet already seem perfectly integrated. The acidity is on the low side the explosiveness of the finish is more than just impressive, it has the 'wow' factor and this should age for two decades or more.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
