Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 93(+?)

($210; 14% alcohol) Full ruby-red. Vibrant, highly perfumed aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and coffee leap out of the glass. Offers the confectionery sweetness of the best 2003s while retaining shape, aromatic complexity and freshness. A superconcentrated, palate-saturating grand cru that expands impressively on the back half, finishing sweet and very long, with no impression of hardness.

Burghound | Rating: 92

Extremely ripe yet still fresh aromas of plum jam, mocha, underbrush and wood spice lead to full-bodied, intense and completely mouth coating flavors and the level of dry extract here is exceptional. This is certainly less elegant than it usually is but it's also more concentrated with dense but fine tannins and huge length. This isn't really my style but it is undeniably a dramatic, powerful and high caliber effort.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
