Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89

($22) Full, deep red. High-toned, pure aromas of cherry, currant and flowers. Sweet, fat and superripe, with deep flavors of red fruits, chocolate liqueur and sweet oak. This began a bit plump and exotically sweet but with time in the glass showed much more shape and freshness without any loss of fat or richness. Finishes with big, ripe, slightly dusty tannins. This was clearly the breakthrough vintage for Juliette Becot's Cotes de Castillon property, which is situated on a clay and limestone plateau.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
