($33-$40) Deep red. Warm, roasted red berry scents, with notes of candied licorice and roasted herbs. A low-acid style, with a round, supple texture and sweet, suave berry jam flavors. Finishes with supple tannins and very good length.

http://www.WinesByJennifer.com Garnet with brownish robe. Medium-bodied, earthy and red fruits on the nose that followed through on the palate. Long and sublime. Probably at its peak right now.

(Cuvee Unique Reserve) Brilliant medium ruby red hued with thick almost colorless legs. The initial funkiness blows off to reveal sweet buttered strawberry and warm spices. Racy acidity keeps the fruit in check and goes reasonably well with the wine?s light to moderate tannins. Only decent length ? frankly this wine is disappointing in the context of the vintage. The Cuv?e Unique is a barrel selection cuv?e from North Berkeley Imports ?North Berkeley even provides the winery with the used Burgundy barrels to age the wine. It is about two thirds Grenache with the remaining third consisting primarily of Syrah and Mourv?dre. It is sourced from vines over 80 years in age. Unfined and unfiltered.

About This Producer

The estate, run by the esteemed Sabon family, can trace its history back to 1547. It includes 25 hectares of Chateauneuf du Pape and parcels in Le Pied de Baud, lieu-dit Monalivet, and les Gallimardes, as well as 15 hectares in Cotes du Rhone. Making wine is still a family affair, and three brothers - Jean-Claude, Pierre and Bernard - run the property, with Jean-Claude's son Thierry, the current winemaker, trained in the tradition of the domaine since day one. The wines are a majority Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault completing the blends. Mont-Olivet produces a red and white Chateuneuf du Pape, and a red and white Cotes du Rhone. The "Cuvee du Papet" is only bottled in the most exceptional vintages.
