Vinfolio | Rating: 94

A boldly precocious nose of huckleberry and white cherry tart. The palate is exceptionally deep with anise, black figs, earthy tar and creme cassis. Pure blackberry extract on the finish. Excellent tannins will keep this wine humming for years.

(includes 10% cabernet franc) Good red-ruby color. Black fruits and flowers on the captivating nose. Sweet and silky on entry, then concentrated in the middle, with slightly roasted dark fruit flavors given shape by juicy acidity. This offers considerable early appeal but has plenty of broad, ripe tannins to support aging. Incidentally, the Fishers are in the process of replanting the Wedding Vineyard behind the house and will have their first crop from the new vines in 2005.

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Coach Insignia offers up scents of spice box, black currants, and subtle oak. Medium to full-bodied and opulent, it begs for consumption over the next 10-12 years.

About This Producer

The winery was founded in 1973, when Fred and Juelle Fisher purchased 100 acres in the Mayacamas Mountains on the western slope of Spring Mountain. There, they built a winery tucked in among the vines and Douglas Firs. The winery itself is a product of the estate, built from the timber that was cut and milled on-site.

In 1976, the family found another 57 acres on the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley. The property runs from the Napa River to the Eastern Vaca Range, adjacent to the famed Eisele Vineyard, and is the source of thier Lamb Vineyard Cabernet, Coach Insignia Cabernet and Cameron Bordeaux Blend.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
