Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 93

A wine of great intensity as well as full-bodied unctuosity, the 2001 Shiraz Lily's Garden (1,500 cases) reveals sweet, jammy blackberry and cherry fruit infused with notions of new saddle leather, meat, chocolate, and dried herbs. Enormous in the mouth, but incredibly well-balanced, it was aged for 11 months in 100% new American oak.

Wine Spectator | Rating: 94

Rich and spicy, layered with ripe blackberry, blueberry and exotic spice flavors that seem to build in intensity from sip to sip. There's plenty of oak flavor, but the fruit is so sumptuous it's not apparent at first. Has density and power with immense polish. 1,500 cases made.

About This Producer

The "two hands" are Michael Twelftree and Richard Mintz, who formed the company in 1999 with the clear objective of making the best possible Shiraz-based wines from prized regions within Australia. In 2000 they started with just 17 tons of fruit from the McLaren Vale and Padthaway wine regions. From the beginning the wines were very well received at home and abroad, with a healthy stream of reviews, culminating in 2004 with Robert Parker pronouncing Two Hands as "the finest negociant operation south of the equator."
