Vinfolio | Rating: 91

Aromas of dark cherry, black berry and plums lead to smooth and elegantly balanced flavors on the palate with some good acidity. Pretty and delicate throughout.

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, which could be expected to tower qualitatively over the 2000, did not do so. It possesses supple tannin, medium body, and layers of cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with spice box, cedar, licorice, and dried herbs. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Given time to open up, this wine rewarded with strong dark fruit and well integrated tannins. Although ready now, it could handle more time in the bottle. Excellent wine for the money.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
