Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 94

The 2001 Barolo Falletto impresses for its layered, silky personality. Sweet roses, tar, licorice and menthol are all woven together in this deceptively medium-bodied Barolo. There is plenty of muscle to back things up. Today the Falletto is quite a bit more delicate than it has been in the past.

This is a bright and focused red with plum, berry and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. This shows class and strength. 1,200 cases made.

Tightly gripping, dusty tannins. Prune, raisin, overripe plum, black tea, and anise. Striking, fresh acid. Excellent old school Barolo.

Wine Varietal: Nebbiolo

Big, dark, and bold, Nebbiolo is a robust variety with heavy tannins and a sometimes bitter profile. While areas outside Italy (Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, California, and South Africa) have begun cultivating Nebbiolo, the Italian region of Piedmont is where it reaches its greatest height. It is here, the historic home to Nebbiolo, where the finest Barolos and Barbarescos are produced. Many winemakers have compared this grape to Pinot Noir for its difficult growing habits and unpredictable cellar and aging behavior. Typical descriptors for Nebbiolo include roses, violets, tar, wild herbs, cherries, raspberries, truffles, and tobacco.
