Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Advocate | Rating: 94

The terrific, extremely textured 1999 Cabernet Franc boasts a floral and black fruit-scented nose with an underlying mineral/earthiness. The wine is medium to full-bodied with an ethereal sense of lightness. The finish goes on and on. There is plenty of sweet tannin to go along with the copious fruit and extract. Pride Mountain does an amazing job with Cabernet Franc. They somehow achieve superb flavor and aromatic intensity without the weight one would expect from a wine so rich and full.

(with 25% merlot) Good medium ruby-red. Black cherry, cassis, violet, tobacco and mint on the nose. Juicy and tightly wound, with vibrant dark berry and tobacco leaf flavors. Foley used the merlot quite effectively to fill in the wine's middle. From fruit picked mostly in November.

A smooth, rich, silky style, with ripe, complex currant, black cherry, herb, cedar, chocolate and vanilla. Finishes with a long, complex aftertaste that keeps pumping out the flavors. 1,000 cases made.

This was lucious. Menthol, floral notes and eucalyptus on the nose...rich, full palate that is at peak and in great balance. Sweet lingering finish. Held up for hours.

About This Producer

Riding the crest of the Mayacamas Mountain Range at an elevation of 2,100 feet, Pride Mountain Vineyards' 200+ acre property is bisected by the Napa/Sonoma county line. The family owned winery has been making some of Spring Mountain's best wines since 1990. Winemaker Bob Foley employs the laborious technique of picking, vinifying, and barrel-aging each of 80 vineyard blocks separately, resulting in the most ideal ripeness levels and blend quality. This integration of vineyard practices and winemaking art is done purposefully. The goal is wines that are bold and fruitful, and that speak of their mountain lineage. Considered by Robert Parker to belong in "the top echelon of California's quality wineries," wines from Pride's gravelly mountaintop vineyards are consistently highly rated and are a staple component of any classic Napa collector's cellar.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Franc

One of the five major blending grapes in Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc is also one of the genetic parents of Cabernet Sauvignon (along with Sauvignon Blanc). Lighter, fruitier, and more herbaceous than Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc grows abundantly in the Loire region of France and is commonly blended with weightier Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Franc are peppers, tobacco, and violets.
