Gogeous wine. Suprisingly light body wine a lot of fruit. All red fruit, Fresh up front with a stewed finish. Slight moacha and leather hints, perhaps some vanilla. Compliment a non-fatty steak. Great Napa example.

About This Producer

Trefethen Vineyards is one of Napa Valley's few remaining family wine estates. Their vineyard is nestled in a verdant landscape of vines at the cooler, in the Oak Knoll District at the southern end of Napa Valley.

Trefethen sustainably farms 63 distinct vineyard blocks, encompassing nine different grape varieties (Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Viognier), 10 different types of rootstock, and 49 different clones, including 13 of Chardonnay and 10 of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
