The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard has boisterous black fruit aromas. Medium to full-bodied and deep, this wine is crammed with highly expressive blackberry, black cherry, and cassis liqueur-like flavors. It is beautifully rendered and harmonious. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Wine Varietal: Pinot Noir

Notorious for its fickle growing patterns, Pinot Noir vines prefer long, cool growing conditions and tend to mutate easily, leaving behind numerous clones and inconsistent flavor profiles. Although it is one of the three major varieties used in Champagne production, Burgundy is the traditional home of Pinot Noir. The 30-mile stretch of hills known as the Cote d'Or is valued as the world's premier production area. Pinot Noir is planted all over the world. In the United States, Sonoma, the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Willamette Valley produce top-notch wines from this variety. Other notable countries include New Zealand, Australia, and Chile. Typical descriptors for Pinot Noir include strawberry, raspberry, cherry, mushroom, and meaty notes.
