International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90

Good medium ruby. Spicy aromas of blackberry and minerals. Juicy and penetrating, with lively flavors of black fruits, licorice and game. Less dense and silky than the '99 or '00, and perhaps more classic in its precision. Finishes with firm tannins, and subtle, lingering finishing flavors. Graves

Harvest date 24 Sep-5 Oct; yield 59.5 hl/ha; vineyard area 55.98 haVery vibrant deep crimson. Sweet, rather beguiling nose - aromatically intense. Very gentle palate with real delicacy and life. Neat finish. Great balance. A real success for this vintage.

Somewhat muted nose of blackcurrants, bright red fruits and dark blue flowers. Hints of green, unripe peppers, as it should be in any Sociando. Some toasted oak in beneath. Not very expressive, and a bit bland or flat on the palate. A little short on finish. Good, but no great Sociando in this vintage.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
