Site Blog: WiredJC This is truly an interesting wine in that it is (relatively) inexpensive and a good way to get a sense of whether one likes a Bordeaux with some age on it or not. I've enjoyed several bottles of this over the last month and a half or so and truly proves the old adage "there are no great wines; only great bottles of wine." I'm scoring it on an average- it's consistently a darkish brick color when decanted, has a full aroma, an enticing yet grippy flavor. I've had one bottle that didn't mature properly (I thought it was well thinner and less flavorful than the others). Would recommend this as an easy way to get a sense of what Bordeaux becomes over a decade or so (though don't fool yourself into thinking it's the same as drinking a 10 or 20 year old great growth).

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
