Professional Reviews For This Wine

Wine Spectator | Rating: 95

Fabulous aromas of exotic fruit, with violets, lavender and roses. Full-bodied, loads of ripe fruit, yet there's a fresh berry, black pepper and vanilla character. Long finish. This is concentrated and needs time. 1,600 cases made.

($119) Saturated, deep ruby-red. Captivating, somewhat idiosyncratic nose combines redcurrant, burnished smoky oak, Szechuan peppercorn, exotic spices, blood orange and a saline suggestion of sea salt. Silky, tactile and very rich, with enough harmonious acidity to give this very broad, pliant wine terrific inner-mouth energy. Red berry flavors are complicated by gunflint and smoky oak. Juicy, elegant, long Brunello, finishing with very suave tannins. (Empson USA, Alexandria, VA)

Wine Varietal: Sangiovese

Italyâ??s most popular grape, Sangiovese is the top grape used in Tuscany including Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and many of Italyâ??s â??Super Tuscans.â?? At least 14 clones of Sangiovese exist which are grouped into the Sangiovese grosso and Sangiovese piccolo families. Sangiovese thrives in a warm climate and consists of over 10% of Italyâ??s vineyard acreage (covering almost a quarter million acres). Over the past decade Sangiovese has become increasingly popular and successful in California as well. Typical descriptors for Sangiovese include candied or dried cherry, citrus, leather, violets and tea.
