Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 89

Medium-deep ruby. Riper aromas of black cherry, licorice, minerals, spicy oak and menthol. Silkier and denser than the '98, but still on the hard side, with strong acidity and slightly green-edged blackberry and licorice flavors. Finishes with rather chunky, oak-enhanced tannins.

About This Producer

Heidi Barrett reached legendary status when she was making Dalla Valle and Screaming Eagle in the 1900s. She has since gone on to consult for several other small estates in the Valley, including Barbour, Paradigm and Revana. La Sirena is her personal project, started in 1994 and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Muscat among its offerings. Future plans for La Sirena include developing Estate vineyards in the Eastern Canyons of Calistoga.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
