Professional Reviews For This Wine

International Wine Cellar | Rating: 93(+?)

($30-$75) Saturated medium ruby. Very black aromas of cassis, licorice and violet, plus a whiff of game. Dense, thick and youthful, with a compelling layered texture and major palate impact. But doesn't have quite the clarity or class of the '85 tasted alongside it. Very long, palate-staining finish features big but thoroughly ripe tannins. May ultimately merit a higher score. Drink 2008 through 2025.

Blackberry, floral and dark chocolate follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a fresh finish.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. 2,500 cases made.

Even more disappointing than the last bottle. Nothing wrong with this, it just doesn't impress or feel any interesting. Mature aromas of sweet berries and leather, but that's about it. And good length too, I suppose. No more of these, and that's really OK by me.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
