Elegant, showing fine integration and a silky weave of ripe yellow peach, lemon pound cake, espresso and crystallized honey flavors, all underscored by accents of toasted brioche, honey and roasted almond that add richness without weight. Delivers a mouthwatering finish, with a lasting tang of sea salt.

(made from mostly grand cru chardonnay grown in Oger, Melsnil-sur-Oger, Cramant, Avize and some from premier cru Vertus; L138210-3002126): Vivid gold. Heady aromas of candied citrus fruits, flowers, truffle, gingerbread and iodine, with an intensely smoky overtone. Deep, pungent and palate-staining, with the orchard and pit fruit flavors reaching every corner of the palate and showing impressive power without any excess weight. Even more extroverted than last year's release, finishing with excellent cling and lingering smokiness.

So silky-smooth and with such intensive nut toffee! The toastiness is there, but lying swimming in an oily nectar which prevents it from really making its way forward as it does in many other vintages. Pretty mousse and uplifting charm.

Hiedsieck's 1995 Blanc des Millenaires is gorgeous in its expression of honeyed apricots, roasted nuts, brioche and flowers. This mid-weight Champagne offers plenty of persistence with perfumed, sweet notes that linger on the finish. This is Lot 61012 11919, disgorged in 2007.

Excellent champagne, balanced, opulent, but not as great as it is written about in WFW's latest issue where it was number one in a vintage champagne tasting.

Pale yellow color with a very fine bead. Nose of some citrus and yeast. Still very bright and lively on the palate. Very fresh wine belies its 17 years! A very elegant but powerful champagne! Excellent!

I thought that this was going to be over the hill but it had marvellous toasty bread notes and a fine mousse.

Wine Varietal: Champagne Blend

Three major varieties are used in a Champagne Blend: Chardonnay, which provides a smooth, creamy texture and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, which provide depth and backbone. Most Champagne is non-vintage (NV), produced with grapes from several different vintages. Vintage Champagnes are made in exceptional years and must contain 80% grapes from that year. Champagne, France is the only region permitted to put "Champagne" on the label.

Blanc de Blancs: Meaning "white of white," blanc de blancs Champagne is 100% Chardonnay.

Blanc de Noirs: Meaning "white of red," is 100% Pinot Noir or a Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier blend.

Rose Champagne: A small amount of still red wine is added during the blending process, creating a rose hue.
