Professional Reviews For This Wine

Jancis Robinson | Rating: 19

Looks quite evolved. Sweet and fruity ? with a hint of bitter grapefruit (strange) ? quite powerful and layered. Very appetising. Lovely texture and lift. This is what only wine can achieve! A bit raw. Le Pin?

This is drinking beautifully. Lots of blackberry and dark chocolate aromas. Full, round and velvety. Love it. Wonderfully plummy, soft and long. Will improve.--Le Pin non-blind vertical. Drink now.

Bordeaux Book(2003) | Rating: 94

Some of the hard tannins this wine possessed early in life have sloughed off to reveal a wine that has a stunning nose of roasted herbs, caramel, smoke, barbecue notes along with fruitcake, blackberry, and black cherry jam, and a bit of white chocolate also entering the smorgasbord of scents. Full-bodied, with low acidity but still moderately high tannin, still a tightly knit, very concentrated wine that is surprisingly structured and backward for Le Pin. It is also a bit more massive than most vintages. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. Last tasted, 5/02.

About This Producer

Chateau Le Pin is owned by the Thienpont family (also proprietors of Vieux Chateau Certan) and has an annual production of about 500 bottles. Le Pin's vineyards are located in the central part of the Pomerol plateau and planted with 90% Merlot grapes and the balance Cabernet Franc. The wines have a ripe, fruit-forward character that typically peak after 15 years of age. Chateau Le Pin takes its name from the presence of a single Pine tree growing on the property.
