With a medium dark ruby color, and a complex, kirsch, pain grille, smoky, deliciously complex and fruity nose, this fragrant wine offers a wealth of raspberry, currant, and cherry-like fruit. It is not a blockbuster, but rather, an elegant, multi-dimensional, round, velvety-textured wine with a lushness and sweetness of fruit that makes it irresistible. This is one of the more seductive wines of the vintage.

stuartjakub.googlepages.com leather, chocolate and tobacco, but soo much of it. Excessively over ripe fruit, after 15 years the fruit held, but the tannins and acid were gone, leaving sweet grape juice.

Drink Dates: 2008-2010
Dark ruby red almost purple in color. Heave fruit - mainly black cherry and black currant - mixed with some smoky undertones and oak on the nose. Heavy fruit on the palate as well with a nice texture. The finish fell a little short.

About This Producer

A denizen of St. Emilion, the l'Arrosee estate is an oft forgotten (and under-classified) property producing wines of power and fleshiness, uniquely tempered with a fragrant richness and subtle layering quality that creates a lovely, almost Burgundian, muscular elegance. In its beginnings, the estate was run by Pierre Magne, Minister to Napoleon III. For the past five years, the chateau has been run by new proprietors, Roger and Jean-Philippe Caille. The new ownership is undoubtedly the starting point for the rebirth of this St.-Emilion Grand Cru.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
