A potentially perfect wine, the 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a fabulous nose of cassis, cream, blueberries, violets, minerals, and spice. It smells like a hypothetical blend of a great vintage of L'Evangile, Clinet, and Mouton-Rothschild. The opaque purple/black color is followed by a full-bodied wine stacked and packed with fruit, glycerin, and extract. No component part is out of place in this formidably endowed, remarkably well-balanced wine. The purity, richness, sweetness and depth of fruit suggest that the wine's potential is limitless. Much like its cellarmate, the 1994 Colgin Cabernet Sauvignon (also made by Helen Turley), the Bryant Family Vineyard's 1994 should evolve into one of California's legendary Cabernets. It will age effortlessly for 25-30 years.

Gorgeous opulent aromas of crushed berries and flowers with vanilla and coffee. You can smell the warm sunshine here. Full and firm, with ripe tannins and loads of ripe fruit. Long finish. This is just a baby still, but why wait?

Seamless and balanced. Decanted 1 1/2 hours. Coats the palate with it's pure balance giving you depth throughout. However, the finish was lacking for me and a little disappointing. Definite herbaceous notes growing as it sat in glass. After 2 full hours, it started wobbling although it could have been the result of a tired palate. Still a very impressive Napa Cabernet. Would like to try some of the younger vintages.

Drank this to celebrate Jets victory over Pats. Took a bit to open up. Concentrated core of blackberry, black cherry liqueur and ripe dark berries. Subtle, spicy notes of sandalwood, cigar box and cedar. Ripe but very restrained and balanced with wonderful complexity. The flavors linger lightly on the lengthy finish. A delicious, flavorful yet elegant wine. Very impressive.

About This Producer

Located high above Lake Hennessy, the vineyards which supply this outstanding expression of Napa's bounty are some of the few influenced by the moderating influence of a relatively large body of water. At 1,500-feet, the high altitude of the Pritchard Hill area also serves to produce low yields of premium grapes that provide the dense, concentrated, black fruit aspect of this enormously complex 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded in 1987 by Don and Barbara Bryant, the wines were originally made by Helen Turley. The current winemaker is Helen Keplinger with Michelle Edwards consulting.

Wine Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the world's best known red variety, with its full-bodied, intense profile. An offspring of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, it is the primary grape of Bordeaux's Left Bank (Medoc and Graves regions) and the Napa Valley, but can be found growing all over the world. Typical descriptors for Cabernet Sauvignon are cassis, cedar, mint, black pepper, eucalyptus, and pencil lead.
