Auction bottle, held 2 years. Cork and color were great. Bretty nose blew off and a solid, firm leather and plum wine emerged. Held form for 3 hours, improving as it went. Rustic style, chewy and still holding tannin in reserve. 1989!

Very traditional old-fashioned austere St-Estephe; I doubt it will improve much

Classic Bordeaux style. Moderate fruit , well balanced, soft tannins.SOlid but not spectacular considering the 1989 pedigree vintage.

Poured out of magnum. Still dark at the core with some bricking at the rim. An enticing nose of pine sap intermixed with dark berry fruit. A nice perfume with hints of forest floor. Medium bodied, surprising amounts of residual sugar, the acidity makes the mouth water slightly with moderate tannin in the background. Delicate yet powerful in the mouth, very enjoyable mature bordeaux that's drinking nicely now. Slightly short on the finish.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
