Professional Reviews For This Wine

Bordeaux Book(1998) | Rating: 97

This is an upper-ninety point La Conseillante that is very much in the style of the 1990. In comparing the two vintages, the 1989 has slightly more noticeable tannin and structure, but it is a perfumed, exotic, sweet, expansive, yummy wine that is hard to resist. These two wines represent La Conseillante's quintessential smooth as silk style, which often leads consumers to believe the wines will not last. One of the unexplainable facts of Bordeaux wine drinking is that even the softer, delicious, up-front wines can age impeccably when well-stored. Owners of the 1989 La Conseillantes should not hesitate to enjoy them now, as well as over the next 20 years.

An outstanding wine of subtle spice, cherry and herb aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, with ripe fruit and soft tannins. Long, chocolate and spice aftertaste.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal.

A bit tart like the 1990. This was more popular with the other tasters but I found its superripeness just a tiny bit lacking in refreshment. Strong black-cherry flavours.

Cork was in great shape. Served from a decanter. Decanted this wine shortly before serving the food. The nose was beautiful and fruity. The taste was complex without any winemaking flaws. A typical Pomerol flavor that contained all kinds of pitted fruits with soft tannins. This wine is near or at its peak and is drinking fantastically. It stood up well to the food and complemented it in the best way.

Blue fruit, mint, mocha, graphite. In the prime of its life, not going to get better I don't think.

Great bottle. Not far behind 1990. Light ruby, nose of red fruit, slight bricking at the rim. Taste was expansive - nice depth of strawberry, raspberry with a slight tinge of earthiness. Just slightly behind the 90 in terms of depth and finish but still a hedonistic experience. 50+9+9+18+9=95

Big flowery, meaty flavor bomb with a medium to long finish. Great with strong cheese and friends.

Wine Varietal: Bordeaux Blend

Six varieties are permitted to be used in a red Bordeaux blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and, less frequently, Carmenere. Each lends a specific characteristic to the finished blends, most of which are dominated by large percentages of either Cabernet Sauvignon, which brings aromatics and age-ability, or Merlot, which adds softness and body. In the Bordeaux region, Cabernet blends are found on the Left Bank and Merlot on the Right.
