(aged on its lees like the chardonnays; no malolactic fermentation): Inviting nose combines peach, licorice, mint and flowers. An intensely flavored, energetic midweight, with a sexy floral quality and a cut-grass pungency to its apricot and stone flavors. Finishes saline and uncompromisingly dry. Seriously good California viognier.

Drink Dates 2013-2017

The 2011 Viognier Lia wraps around the palate with lovely notes of lychee, apricot, passion fruit and white flowers. There is plenty of varietal nuance in the glass, along with just an extra hint of California volume that adds richness, but does not overpower. All in all, this is a terrific wine that should drink well for a handful of years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2017.

The vibrant orange blossom, Creamsicle and sherbet flavors are tangy and appealing, with plenty of toasty, honeyed and spicy accents on the long finish.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
