Producer Notes

Sourced from the 60-year-old vines off Bret Lopez's JJ Cohn Vineyard in Rutherford, and made by Celia Welch, this wine became a legend in just three short years. The vines were planted in 1945 by JJ Cohn (Lopez's Grandfather) in response to neighbor and Inglenook Manager John Daniel's post-war behest to plant vines to service the coming demand. Stunning wine. Great, young fruit, with hints of charcoal, and Bittersweet Chocolate. Black Cherries and currants are prevalent, oak in balance.

Opens with black currant, follows with vanilla and mint. Dark brooding purple in the glass, wonderful aroma. A very well made wine, still a bit young and will probably improve for about 5 more years. Distinctive in flavor profile, and elegant.

Full bodied and cavernous in depth, mellow lingering resonance, leading out to a succinct finish. Masculine.

One of the highest alcohol levels I have seen in a cab. Sitting right around 15% this beautiful California flagship Cab Sauv leaves little to the imagination. After a good hour in the decanter the softness of the berries shined through. Almost no tannic or acidic qualities which is nice for today but could hurt the juice in 10 years. I would definitely say the price tag can scae some people but if you can buck up and get a bottle do it. Besides you can always buy more Sloan or Screaming eagle if this doesnt satisfy your Cab side.

Decided to try this as the 09 offering showed up. Really great wine. Supple and smooth tannins and a great finish. Dark berry and jam flavor profile. Excellent wine that drinks well now and will age for a few years.

Wow. Pure. Napa. Cab. Rutherford dust, extra long finish. One left...5 years.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
