(65% cabernet sauvignon, 23% merlot, 11% cabernet franc, 1% petit verdot; made from declassified barrels): Slightly high-toned aromas of nutty oak, mocha and menthol; at once a tad roasted and peppery. Fat, sweet, lush and open-knit, with the nutty note carrying through on the palate. Can't match the estate's top two bottlings for energy or finesse of tannins--or for consistency of ripeness. But this blend will be enjoyable early.

The 2008 Prince of Hearts is a 440-case production of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and a small quantity of Petit Verdot. Supple and elegant, it is lighter than its bigger siblings, but reveals a spicy, rich style with notes of burning embers, black cherries, black currants and coffee.
