A second bottling of the 2008, this was deep and rich in black fruits and smokey oak. Says "Barossa" in bold letters, with a big frame, lots of depth and plenty of chocolate on the finish. Could be more complex, but still showing young.

Second bottle is a pop and pour. Using a Riedel Zin glass which seems to be concentrating the fruit on the palate but is still outstanding. Too tight for the nose though, mostly fruit. Mouth coating dark fruit with some spice, very balanced alcohol & tannins. Silky texture.

The 2008 growing season had everything. An ideal build up, a very congested ripening period and then a heat wave in early march ensured that it was an exciting and busy vintage for our winemaking and vineyard teams. The Shiraz was picked early to avoid the predicted heat and has reaped the benefits as a result and is characterized by real depth of flavor and great balance.bA focus on quality rewards the consumer with a wine showing the best of Barossa Shiraz. This big, smooth wine is polished, ripe and complex, offering roasted meat and walnut accents to its black cherry, blackberry, tobacco and licorice aromas and flavors. Lingers appealingly on the expansive finish. Drink now through 2020. -Harvey Steiman
