The 2008 Ridge Monte Bello did not disappoint. It was served with a roasted, then grill-finished, whole beef tenderloin. The color was dark - almost inky purple. The nose had fragrances of blackberry and cherry, sweet cigar and an earthy wetness. The palate was delicious - the fruit was mature, yet juicy; the body was soft, round and luscious. The tannins were firm and balanced. A nice complement to the beef. An enjoyable experience shared with close family.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
