In 2010, this wine looked and smelled great, but seemed closed on the palate. After nearly two years in the cellar, the wine has lost some of its beautiful color and expressive nose, but made some gains some in the flavor department. In 2012, the nose is more reticent - gamier and less fruity than spicy, with black pepper especially prominent. Although rather thin-bodied, there is some really nice cassis fruit shining on the palate - almost liqueur-like - as well as spicy black pepper. There is plenty of tannin showing here as well; although the 2007 En Gobelet is waking up, the next bottle should remain safely cellared for another couple years.

Drink Dates 2010-2012

Ripe, concentrated and very primary, but ultimately comes across coarse and lacking in polish. Kind of like a middling Cotes du Rhone from a very warm year. Not quite up to the usual Tablas Creek standard

Somewhat flabby, mediocre wine. Not enough tannins or acidity to age well.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
