Red Proprietary Blend
Producer Notes

Although the Antinori family has been making wine for over 600 years and is steeped in tradition, they haven't been afraid to modernize production and to take an innovative approach to blending. One result is the world famous Super Tuscan "Tignanello," a blend of Sangiovese (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), and Cabernet Franc (5%). Marchesi Piero Antinori is the current proprietor of the estate,... More »

($95; 14% alcoh ol) Bright, medium ruby-red. Musky black fruits, cedar, graphite and minerals on the cabernet-dominated nose. Broad and lush in the mouth, conveying a full-bodied, weighty impression but also plenty of energy to the flavors of blackcurrant, tobacco and cedar. Finishes very long and smooth, with extremely fine-grained tannins. Though this is a very refined and highly successful version of Tignanello, I found it to be a bit more international and soft in style than the 2006 and 2004 versions, which I like better.

The 2007 Tignanello is ripe with promise for the future. The wine has just started its evolutionary track with aromas of blackcurrant, dried blackberry and cherry. This was a warm but balanced vintage that shows beautiful results today and exceeds my already high expectations. There is a steady thickness and determination to the wine that carries it forward. This was the last vintage made in the Tignanello winery before the structure saw a major overhaul. Given the staying power of this historic wine, I feel that this vintage will hold easily for another 20 years or more.

Displays sweet plum and berry aromas and flavors, with hints of toasty oak and cappuccino. Full-bodied, yet reserved and fine. Turns chewy and juicy.

Has softened up quite a bit. Very fine, not overly complex but worked well paired with the meat based pasta dish we had.

A solid drinking wine. Great body, balance and finish. Still young and will be a power house in 3-4 years.

Took to Chef Vola's in Atlantic City, wonderful Italian restaurant, with a group and several other wines. This one was tops to me. Big, bold & brambly dark fruit cabernet. The tannins are present but well integrated. Overall a powerful but pleasing and balanced wine.

A little tight when we poured the first glass. As this wine opened up, it improved, but never became more than just a good wine. I expected more for the price point.

Surprisingly ready to drink, tannins are present but soft. Black fruit jam aromas, some light wood, persistent, long and good mineral notes.

I should have waited. Completely closed on the nose even after decanting for two hours. More showed up on the second day but it is still not ready. Tannins were well integrate but the dark cherry, smoke, leather characteristics didn't show their full potential.

Decant 2 hours. Dark ruby color. Classic IGT nose of dusty dark berry fruit and earthy hay. Palate is full of dark fruit, tar, anise, cassis, licorice, with hints of perfumed floral nuances. Smooth, medium long, with drinkable tannic structure and somewhat juicy acidity. Very mature, masculine, and a classic tignanello from a fantastic vintage. I have to imagine, this traditional producer is attempting to modernize the production, and make their wines as drinkable young as possible.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
