The wine was a beautiful, dark garnet in glass with inviting aromas of black cherry, candied orange, cola, and herbs on the nose. On the palate, I was pleased with the nicely integrated fruit and acidity. The tannins were round and plush, yielding a velvety mouthfeel. As for the finish, it was smooth and long with notes of coffee and anise. The wine is most certainly approachable now, but will continue to benefit from a few more years in the bottle.

Fantastic Italian effort, bold enough to stand up to the heaviest Lasagna, but smooth on the tongue with a clean finish and no bitter residue like a chianti, and if you have any left after dinner it will not disappoint all by itself, very pleasant and versatile.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
