($60) Deep ruby. Black raspberry, smoky herbs and Asian spices on the nose. Suave and fine-grained, with deep flavors of raspberry, blackberry and tangy minerals. A step up in extract and power from the regular bottling, with more depth and intensity to its red and dark fruit flavors. Gains a floral quality on the back half, finishing sweet, broad and minerally, with dusty tannins and an echo of candied flowers.

Grenache Noir 75%, Syrah 15%, Mourvedre 4%, Cinsault 3%, Vaccarese 2%, Picardan 1%Middling healthy ruby. Rudely healthy exuberant fruit. Open, easy, delightedly healthy, ripe fruit. Lots of fun here. And neither tannins nor alcohol are aggressive. Fresh finish.

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is blockbuster stuff that has overflowing kirsch, blackberry, incense, lavender and Asian spices flowing to a sexy, full-bodied, multidimensional wine that has impeccable balance and knockout length. While I've a slight preference for the 2010, the 2007 has fabulous mid-palate density and an incredibly polished mouthfeel that's hard to resist. It too is drinking well now, but will have 15 to 20 years of overall longevity when all is said and done.

Alluring mulled spice, braised fig and red currant fruit is layered with mouthwatering maduro tobacco and bittersweet cocoa notes. Picks up a bright minerally edge on the finish. Excellent precision.

Deep dark ruby core with purple tinges all the way to the rim. Aromas of framboise , mint , anise , and a whisp of garrigue. All the usual suspects are present on the palate in a very concentrated fashion. Raspberry , blackberry , black cherry , melted black licorice , black pepper all throughout the palate in a medium to full weight. The fruit flavors were concentrated , but not over-the-top. Beautiful long lingering finish.

This is a truly good wine. First decanted for about 2.5 - 3 hours. Had it with oven roasted thyme potatoes, heavily reduced red wine sauce and rib steak, tones of violets emerged surrounded by leathery silky tones of dark red berries. Well balanced and just a touch of heat which I look for in a young red wine. My only question is what will happen in the future... Can't wait...

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
