Can't remember if I ever had a wine from Alicante, but we were 2 for 2 tonight, this in a lot of ways was like the Ruggero but smoother, bing cherry and milk chocolate, alcohol seemed higher but well hidden. Really good with food - perhaps more good to come from Valencia? Believed this was Cab, Merlot, Syrah and Tempranillo. Really good, great value.

The 2006 Beryna Seleccion is made up of 50% Monastrell, 40% Tempranillo, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 20 months in new French oak. Smoke, brooding black fruits, underbrush, and Asian spices lead to a dense, savory, rich wine with excellent volume and balance. It will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring and should be at its best through 2021. Bernabe Navarro owns 88 acres of vine, predominantly old-vine Monastrell. A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
