Producer Notes

Located in the picturesque Florentine hillsides just outside the pastoral town of Panzano, Fontodi is the spectacular domain of the Manetti family. The vineyards are located in the valley of the Conca d'Oro (Golden Basin) and enjoy a cool climate and marl-rich soil that gives the fruit a signature high-toned, red cherry profile. Potential here is amazing and didn't do this wine justice by not giving this the long decant it deserved but certainly one of the best Chiantis I've ever tried. Had none of the funk/barnyard I get from other Chiantis - this was refined, smooth, leathery, full of fruit, amazing finish. This needs 4-5 years but it's a treat even now.

Youthful dark glossy purple. Vibrant, thick nose with dried cherry, tobacco and woody herbs. Dense, tight and mineralic on the palate. Aggressive grippy tannins wrap the sweet red fruits, exotic spices and earthy leather. Long, powerful and intense.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
