France - Bordeaux - St Julien

Red Bordeaux Blend
Producer Notes

The Second Growth classified estate of Leoville Las Cases continues to produce wines of exceptional quality, rivaling those of the First Growth producers. The wines are full-bodied, concentrated and complex, and have tremendous aging potential. Typical blends consist of over 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, with lesser amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and a small amount of Petit Verdot. Bargain... More »

Typically boring Bordeaux 2nd. Don't know why I bother except to serve with lamb occasionally

Cherry, blackberry, wood (vanilla) aromas. Medium length, sweet notes, tannins could be softer for my taste.

Still takes a while to open up. Dark berries and truffles on the nose. Medium to full bodied, yet thins out slightly in the middle. Tannins are still tight, but the finish is short. Not up to the 2005 vintage.

Very good balance and elegant. Full of fruit, red currant, black cherry, cedar, pencil lead, nice oak favor vanilla, smoky, with goos acidity balance and very smooth tannin. It is very nice to drink now with 1 hour or so breathing. I believe it can last for next 10 years well.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
