White Sauvignon Blanc
Producer Notes

Hartwell's Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blanc vines are ideally situated in the Stags Leap District of Napa, on the steep slope of a dormant volcano. Issue 122

Crafted by Benoit Touquette (Ch. La Louviere, Couhins-Lurton and Remhoogte Estate for Michel Rolland in South Africa), and Andy Erickson (Arietta, Dalla Valle, Favia, Ovid and Screaming Eagle). This is the second stunning example of dry white wine from Hartwell and is likely to impress anyone who tries it. Vinfolio debuted this wine to the world for Auction Napa Valley in early June.

Aromas of key lime, mineral, and fresh shortbread. The palate shows vibrant yet smooth acidity, lush citrus, lime, grapefruit and sea salt on mid palate with a finish that lasts for over a minute. It shows extraordinary structure following opening; a recent tasting of this wine open to air in excess of 100 hours showed essentially no sign of deterioration.

We had this with "Crispy Baked Cod" on 4/7/09. It had a very pleasant bouquet of lime, lemon, green apple and fresh cut grass. Other than the addition of some minerals, the palate followed exactly. It was well balanced, creamy and had very nice acidity. This was very enjoyable.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
